Appreciation Email

This student email detailed a graded scale of their teacher's performance for semester 1. This was not only unprompted, but completely unexpected. I and my co-teacher were the only 10/10 on this student's grading scale.

This email was a nice surprise that was prompted due to a conversation about trigger warnings in the classroom. It says:

"Hi Ms. Weir! I just wanted to email you to let you know how welcomed I feel in your class. The way you acknowledge our triggers and concerns just makes me happy. No other teacher I have ever known is as nice as you. I feel heard and I just want to say thank you for doing what you're doing. Being in your class just gives me a chance to finally be able to just breathe. Again, thank you.

This email was a response to one I had sent in concern that a joke in class may have gotten out of hand. I had figured it would be best to check in with the student to ensure there was no misunderstanding or feelings of being unwelcome in the classroom. The student then responded,

"Thank you for checking in, but I promise I didn't take any of it personally. Though it is extremely kind that you ask so again thank you. But this is one of the many reasons you are my favorite teacher, you know how to teach in a kind, intellectual but also fun environment."
